About UHPF

A year after Leonard's passing, the Cohen family celebrated his life and continued his legacy of great works with the musical homage Tower of Song: A Memorial Tribute to Leonard Cohen at Montreal's Bell Centre. Proceeds from the concert were designated for Canada's Arts Councils, organizations for which Leonard often expressed his appreciation for their support during the early days of his career.

To achieve the Cohen family's charitable goals, the Unified Heart Productions Foundation (UHPF) was incorporated as a Canadian charitable organization. Its purpose is to advance the public's appreciation of the arts and advance education on topics related to the arts. Money raised by the not-for-profit corporation supports the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, and the Conseil des arts de Montréal, which in turn make grants to support individual Canadian artists as well as major Canadian art institutions.  See links to websites below.

Directors of the UHPF include Robert Kory, Leonard's manager and Trustee of the Leonard Cohen Family Trust (“LCFT”), Rubin Fogel of Rubin Fogel Productions, which was Leonard’s concert promoter in Quebec, and Leonard's son Adam Cohen.  Directors serve without compensation.

The LCFT supports the Canadian foundation in a variety of ways.  Most importantly, LCFT facilitates the licensing of Leonard Cohen intellectual property to select charitable projects supported by the foundation.  LCFT also arranges for the licensing of Cohen intellectual property owned by other major companies, namely SONY Music and SONY/ATV Music Publishing on very favorable, non-commercial terms to support arts projects.
