Leonard passed away unexpectedly on November 7, 2016 and was buried in Montreal three days later in strict accord with Jewish law.  A month later, Adam and Lorca organized a private commemoration for 150 family and friends at Leonard’s temple, Ohr HaTorah in Los Angeles.  In keeping with Jewish tradition, Adam enabled public celebration one year later in Montreal through the Tower of Song memorial concert.   That event happened to fall at the beginning of a month of unique artistic events that had been approved by Leonard prior to his death.  Those events became an extension of Montreal’s memorial celebration of their unique iconic artist.  There is a story there, and UHPF engaged Grammy award-winning Canadian musicologist Rob Bowman to compose the liner notes for this story.

Through interviews and photos, Rob Bowman tells the story of Leonard’s final instructions before his passing and provides insight into the behind-the-scenes unfolding of the 2017 Montreal events celebrating his life, including the MAC exhibition, Les Ballets Jazz’s Dance Me production, the MU collective’s Cohen mural and the Tower of Song tribute concert.
